The Ventura County Fire Department broke ground on new Fire Station 29 in Santa Paula Tuesday, May 28, the VCFD public information officer said in an X post.
Originally built in 1935, this station housed the Santa Paula Fire Department until joining the County Fire District in 2018. This new station will blend a modern design, while embracing the historic downtown of Santa Paula. New station 29 will house an aerial apparatus, serve as a battalion headquarters, and include a small museum honoring the of history of the Santa Paula Fire Department.
The flag over Station 29 was lowered by former Santa Paula Fire Captain Steve Lazenby and his son Dustin Lazenby, a fourth-generation Santa Paula firefighter and VCFD Battalion Chief. Construction is anticipated to be completed in mid to late 2026.
Local leaders from the County of Ventura to the fire department gathered for the groundbreaking event. This marks the start of a project that will enhance fire protection services for the city and the greater area.
While the new station will preserve the rich history of this county landmark, the county is committed to public safety and strengthening Santa Paula’s Fire Department capabilities.
