Lubbock Fire Rescue installed the first Safe Haven Baby Box in the South Plains and the second in Texas, the fire department said in a Facebook post. The newest Safe Haven Baby Box in the state is located at Lubbock Fire Station No. 9 at 4810 50th Street.

The Safe Haven Baby Box is a safe, secure, and 100% anonymous way for parents in crisis to surrender their newborns. It’s available 24/7, ensuring that the baby will be cared for immediately by first responders. Additionally, the Safe Haven Baby Box is climate-controlled, providing a safe environment for the baby while waiting for the fire department’s immediate care.

The Safe Haven Baby Box is one of two options for those who find themselves having to surrender their newborn. The other option, under the Baby Moses Law, is to surrender in person to any hospital, fire station or EMS station.

Parents who find themselves in a crisis can contact the Safe Haven Baby Box Hotline at 1-866-992-2291 or visit the department’s website at LubbockFireRescue.com for more information.
