Wichita (KS) Firefighter Dies After House Fire

Update (8 p.m.): A Wichita (KS) firefighter has died in the line of duty after a house fire Thursday, according to reports.

The firefighter’s identity has not been released as of this writing. It is the first line-of-duty death for the department since 2010, the Wichita Eagle said.

Original report: A Wichita (KS) firefighter was reportedly unresponsive and transported to a hospital after a house fire on Thursday.

Firefighters responded at 2:55 p.m. on August 1, 2024, to a reported fire n the 8900 block of South Laura Street, according to the Wichita Eagle.

According to KWCH, the firefighter was critically injured in the fire.

KSNW reported that the firefighter was the only one injured in the incident. The fire was quickly controlled.
