Fort Myers (FL) Recruit Firefighter Dies After Physical Fitness Assessment

A recruit firefighter for the Fort Myers (FL) Fire Department died after participating in a physical assessment evaluation, according to news reports.

Nathaniel “Nate” Wilcox, 22, was a firefighter applicant training at Station 11 when he experienced medical complications during the physical assessment evaluation, according to WINK. He reported that he was not feeling well following the assessment and fell ill. Autopsy results are pending.

According to FOX 4, the department will declare Wilcox an honorary firefighter.
