Wayne Township (IN) Firefighter Dies From Injuries in 1995 Fire Apparatus Crash

The Wayne Township Fire Department, located on the west side of Indianapolis, announced one of its former firefighters died from injuries sustained in a fire apparatus accident nearly 30 years ago, wthr.com reported.

Rodrick Shane Lambert died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10. He was 52 years old.

According to the fire department, Lambert died from paralysis and other complications that date back to when a fire apparatus he was in overturned May 24, 1995. Wayne Township firefighter Ronald Deer died in the crash, the report said.

The Wayne Township Fire Department made the following Facebook post Saturday, Aug. 10:

“Wayne Township firefighter Rod Lambert passed away at 5:30 am this morning (Saturday). Rod was injured in a 1995 fire engine accident and has lived for nearly 30 years in a wheelchair.

“Rod was a fixture at Wayne Township fire stations, visiting often and bringing his incredible spirit and smile, inspiring others to never give up on life’s challenges.

“Please remember his family during this difficult time. We will share further information on his arrangements as they become available.”
