The Milton Volunteer Fire Department made the following Facebook post Thursday, June 6:

On Wednesday afternoon, June 5, Engine 404 was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Newmans Branch Road resulting in two firefighters being transported to the hospital. Both fireman were released from the hospital with minor injuries.

The Engine was crowded by a delivery driver over the yellow line, and the side of the road broke off sending the Engine into a ditch where it rode the bank until it stopped.

Thank you to the Asplundh Tree Company guys that stopped to check on our fireman, as the delivery driver stopped, looked back, and then continued down the road.

Engine 404 was inspected for damage after being removed from the ditch, and will remain in service. Most of the damage turned out to be cosmetic, and will be fixed and serviced as soon as possible.

Please remember to always give as much room as possible to emergency vehicles. Our engine weighs over 41,000 pounds and can be difficult to navigate on some roads due to their conditions. This was a low speed accident as the company was out on a non-emergency detail. Given the conditions, this accident could have been much worse. Pray for your fireman and other first responders that are out doing their best to keep your community safe.
