Jun. 28—TOLLAND — The Town Council will hold a public hearing July 9 to discuss $2.15 million in appropriations for several projects, including the purchase of a new fire truck and various improvements at several of the town’s schools.

At a cost of $1.2 million, the new pumper-tanker would replace a 31-year-old tanker that no longer has a functioning pump, Town Manager Brian Foley said Thursday. The town sold another aging tanker last year, replacing it with a used ladder truck.

During the Town Council’s meeting Tuesday, Finance Director Lisa Hancock said the town’s trucks “tend to last longer than 10 years.”

Foley said that with the purchase of the new rig and the retirement of the old one, the town will still have four pumper-tankers, one ladder truck, and two tankers between its four firehouses.
