Three Firefighters Sent to Hospital After Greenwich (CT) Pumper Struck by Tractor-Trailer at Accident Scene

A portion of Interstate 95 is shut down Thursday morning after a tractor-trailer slammed into a fire truck responding to a prior wreck, wtnh.com reported.

Connecticut State Police said troopers were on scene of a tractor-trailer rollover on I-95 southbound near exit 4 around 1 a.m. when two vehicles approached the scene, one striking the rear of the other, according to the report.

The collision resulted in the fire apparatus being struck by one of the involved vehicles, the report said.

“On Thursday morning, June 27, while Greenwich Fire Department was operating at an accident on I-95, Engine 1 was struck by a tractor-trailer causing a secondary multi-vehicle accident resulting in the extrication and transport of multiple patients,” the fire department said in a Facebook post.

“All three personnel on Engine 1 were transported to Stamford hospital for treatment with non-life threatening injuries. The accident is under investigation by the Connecticut State Police.”
