KME Fire Apparatus has been awarded two orders from the federal government, one for eight custom heavy rescue trucks for the U.S. Air Force and the other for 10 light brush units for the Southwestern Region of the U.S. Forest Service.
The Air Force heavy rescue units will be built on KME custom chassis with aluminum heavy rescue walk-around bodies. Each unit includes roof compartments with a body access ladder, an awning, a 25,000-watt generator and a light tower.
Deliveries to airbases across the nation will be made in the spring of 2010. KME said it is also in production of 22 medium duty rescues for the Air Force as well.
KME’s rescue line includes a full range of special service units for all functions, including command, dive support, hazmat, extrication, communications, air/light, rapid intervention team and fire suppression.
The light brush units for the Forest Service will be shipped to national forests in Arizona and New Mexico, according to KME, which won the bid as a best overall value supplier.
The light brush bodies will be mounted on 4×4 Ford F-550 extended cab chassis. Features include a utility style body with hinged doors, a 300-gallon water tank, a 25-gallon foam cell, a 150-gpm diesel driven pump and LED lighting. Delivery of the units should begin in the fall of 2009.
