PRESS RELEASE

IT’S A GIRL! Delivery went smoothly and our 33-foot, 1-inch, 30,160-pound rescue engine is finally here. She is a 2023 Pierce Enforcer with a 750-gallon tank and a 1,500-gpm Waterous pump.

After four long years of meticulous planning with a dedicated truck committee and diligently conserving funds for several years, German Township Volunteer Fire Department was able, for the first time ever, to build a truck from the ground up to fit the needs of our department and best serve our community.

Countless hours went in to every detail from being both as fiscally responsible as possible as well as being service and safety oriented. This engine was purchased through the cumulative fire fund which is allocated to the fire department by the German Township Trustee’s office and his advisory board.

Some of the features that were a substantial upgrade for our department’s firefighters include:

  • Airbag safety system in the event of an accident in the apparatus
  • Headsets for the interior to protect hearing
  • HAAS alert system that is integrated with navigation systems and navigation apps that provide motorists with real time information that an emergency vehicle may be in the area or approaching to help reduce accidents
  • Seating for four additional firefighters than this engine’s predecessor
  • More compartment space and space specifically designed for the equipment this engine will carry
  • Lower hose bed

The truck committee was open for any member on the department to participate and every rank was represented from private to fire chief, as well as a representative from the township trustee’s advisory board and the trustee himself.

This engine’s primary job is to respond to vehicle accidents because of its complement of extrication equipment, vehicle fires, and other rescues. It will be a secondary engine for all structure fires and specialized medical calls.

We feel this engine will serve our community with pride and fiercely defend the crossroads for many years to come. As always, thank you for your ongoing support!
