Red Diamond Shuts Down

After about 10 years of making fire apparatus, the parent company of Red Diamond Fire Trucks of Spartanburg, S.C., has closed the division.

Oilmen Truck Tanks, founded in 1951, will continue to make a variety of truck tank delivery equipment and trucks used in the distribution of gasoline, diesel, bulk oil and other products.

“In an effort to more efficiently respond to and serve our existing truck tank customer base, we have chosen to refocus our efforts and resources on our core business,” said Trey Hill, vice president of Oilmen Truck Tanks, who had oversight responsibilities for Red Diamond Fire Trucks. “We are extremely proud of the equipment we produced bearing the Red Diamond name.”

Hill said Red Diamond produced no more than 12 trucks in any given year, and he considered the company a “regional builder.” The progression into the fire truck business was a gradual one, Hill said. Red Diamond started helping budget conscious local fire departments convert fuel and water trucks into fire apparatus, he said, and then manufactured new, purpose-built apparatus in the 1990s.

“Red Diamond made some fine quality pieces,” Hill said. “Although we will no longer manufacture fire apparatus,  we will continue to recognize and support the Red Diamond line of equipment and all warranties associated with it.”

Departments with Red Diamond equipment may call 800-859-8265 with any questions or concerns about warranty issues.
