The Spokane Valley Fire Department welcomed its new Engine 8 and invited the community to celebrate the push-in ceremony, fox28spokane.com reported.

TIME LAPSE VIDEO: “There is a lot of work that goes into putting a new engine into service,” Spokane Valley said on its Facebook page. “Today B Shift on Engine 8 stripped all the gear and equipment off of the old Engine 8 (which will now become a reserve engine) and put it on the new Engine 8, making sure its ready to serve our citizens.”

The current Engine 8 went into service in 2010. The 14-year-old engine has 129,000 miles and will be moved to SVFD’s reserve fleet, the report said.

The new Engine 8 was specially built by Pierce to Spokane Valley’s specifications and fitted with gear, including technical rescue equipment, according to the report.

SVFD is working to standardize its fleet by 2026, helping crews better respond to emergency situations, the report said.
