PRESS RELEASE

We have been keeping a surprise under wraps at Station 17. Over the weekend, four of our members traveled to West Lebanon Fire Department in Indiana, to pick up our new-to-us pumper-tanker. This crucial move towards a fleet better suited to serving our community has been months in the making. Not only are we appreciative of those who made the trip, we also want to thank those members who dedicated extra time, canceling weekend plans to make sure our district was covered, while the others were away. With the hard work of our members, less than 24 hours after the truck arrived, all of the required equipment was moved over to Pumper-Tanker 17.

Last night, members had driver and pump training on the new truck, and it was placed into service. This truck carries all of the equipment required by the NC Department of Insurance for an Engine, holds 2,000 gallons of water, and is equipped with a 1,500-gpm rear-mount pump. Making this key change to our front line truck means that we are now responding with 1,000 gallons of extra water, bringing the total between our first out Engine, and first out Tanker, to 5,000 gallons.

Utilizing the foam system on this truck can triple the effectiveness of that water to 15,000 gallons.

Most importantly, all of us at Walnut Fire Dept would like to thank YOU, the Walnut community, for your support of everything that we do. We are proud to serve such an amazing community. Our number one goal is to always strive to give our community the best we can, whether it comes to saving lives, or saving property.
