Stockton (CA) FD Welcomes Six New Pierce Pumpers

PRESS RELEASE

STOCKTON, Calif. – The city of Stockton and the Stockton Fire Department held a ceremony Thursday, Oct. 12 at Weber Point Events Center, 221 North Center Street, to dedicate six new fire engines.

The pumpers were funded by a $4.5 million grant from the federal government’s American Rescue Plan Act, abc10.com reported.

“The Stockton Fire Department is one of the busiest fire departments in the nation,” shared Stockton Fire Chief Rick Edwards. “Our fire apparatus has logged a lot of hours and much of the fleet is well past its prime. It takes a couple of years to replace aging equipment, and we are eager to put all these new engines into service for the community.”

Fire apparatus must be custom built for each department so that it matches the connections and fittings of equipment already in use. The new Stockton Fire Department engines were ordered in 2021, built by Pierce Manufacturing in Wisconsin, shipped to Golden State Fire Apparatus of Sacramento for final finishings, and recently rolled off the assembly line and delivered to Stockton.

“Our firefighters work tirelessly day in and day out to protect our city,” said Mayor Kevin Lincoln. “These new engines are providing our fire department with the equipment they need to serve and protect our residents and properties for years to come.”

City Manager Harry Black agreed that this is a momentous occasion to share with the entire community. “Thanks to the America Rescue Plan Act funding that Stockton received, we were able to replace several fire engines that were experiencing mechanical failures, and they have all arrived within the last few weeks.”
