The Jones County Board of Supervisors purchased a new pumper for $438,700 from Deep South Fire Trucks in Collins for the Shady Grove Volunteer Fire Department, leader-call.com reported. It was delivered Monday, Oct. 2 at the Jones County Courthouse.
The Shady Grove Volunteer Fire Department made the following post on its Facebook page Monday, Oct. 2:
The pumper seats four firefighters, carries 2,000 feet of hose, has a 1,000 gallon water tank, pumps 1,200 gallons of water per minute, and carries three different size ladders.
The services that the fire department provides have changed significantly over the last 20 years. The pumper has become a multi-purpose emergency vehicle capable of mitigating a variety of emergencies in addition to fires.
Pumpers now carry needed medical equipment, rescue tools including the Jaws of Life, water rescue gear, power saws, large fans to exhaust smoke and toxic gases. This new fire engine has a service life of 25 years.
