The city of Powell River has a unique opportunity for interested parties to bid on a brand-new, never- used Pierce Maxi-Saber pumper, the city said in a press release Jan. 5.

The bidding process has opened at $1,000,000 (plus GST/PST/HST as applicable) and no bids below this amount will be accepted. All documentation has been posted on the bidding portal, Bonfire. All inquiries must be submitted through Bonfire. Bidding closes at 2 p.m. Feb. 7, 2024.

Following a re-assessment contained in a report to Powell River City Council in December 2023 on fire underwriter rating requirements, it was found that the apparatus was not needed to maintain fire service levels and the city’s insurance rating.

Council approved the purchase of the pumper truck in the 2018 as part of the Powell River Fire Rescue equipment replacement plan. The truck was ordered in 2022 and Fire Rescue formally took possession in November 2023.
