Lynchburg (VA) Fire Department Adds Four Fire Apparatus for $2.5M

PRESS RELEASE

A hot, but historic day for the Lynchburg Fire Department as city leaders, command staff and line personnel helped to dedicate four new pieces of apparatus during washdown and push-in ceremonies Thursday, Sept. 7.

The department added two 2022 Ford F550 Road Rescue Medic Units and two 2023 Pierce Enforcer pumpers for a total cost of $2.5 million.

Station 4 has a new engine and medic unit, Station 7 has replaced its medic unit (we switched things up and “washed” it down with an IV bag), and Station 8 added a new Engine 8 to its fleet.

Thank you to city leadership for providing the more than $2.5 million to help us upgrade our fleet and continue to serve the citizens of Lynchburg with the best equipment available.

The wash-down ceremonies date back to the time when horses pulled fire equipment and, after returning from a call, fire crews would hose down the horses then unhook and push the apparatus back into the station (since horses don’t go in reverse).
