American LaFrance has received an order for 10 Liberty rescue pumpers from the Board of Supervisors of Lamar County in southeastern Mississippi.
“Our county’s growth necessitates the increase of fire protection for our residents and our businesses,” said George Stevens, Lamar County’s fire coordinator. “We are pleased with our past experience with American LaFrance and look forward to the delivery of our new fire apparatus in 2008.”
Lamar County, founded in 1904, is one of the fastest growing counties in Mississippi and covers an area of slightly under 500 square miles. The county is using a U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development grant of $500,000 to help pay for the new apparatus.
In 2003, Lamar County took delivery of three American LaFrance pumpers on Freightliner Business Class M2 chassis that have served the front line of the county’s fire departments.
The Liberty rescue pumpers is the county’s latest order are to be built on Freightliner M2 106 2-door cabs and chassis with 300-hp Mercedes-Benz engines with 12,000-pound front axles and 24,000-pound rear axles.
They each have a 220-inch wheelbase with an overall length of 28 feet, 11 inches, a width of 98 inches, and a height of 117 inches. Features include a 1,000-gallon tank with a 20-gallon foam cell, a Hale Qflo Plus 1,250-gpm pump with a Hale foam system and a Whelen LED warning light package.
