The Huntington Fire Department announced Wednesday that the Gallagher Fire Station on Washington Boulevard welcomed a new Engine 10.
It is the first new apparatus for the Gallagher station in nearly 60 years, herald-dispatch.com reported. Huntington Fire Chief Greg Fuller said the last new engine assigned to the station was purchased in 1964, the report said. A fire official said the station has received trucks from the department’s other stations in the past, according to the report.
The new apparatus is a 2023 Spartan that was purchased through Johnson’s Emergency Vehicle Solutions in Wellston, Ohio, for $642,167.
It is capable of holding 750 gallons of water on board and can discharge up to 1,500 gallons of water per minute. Its short wheel base and tight turning radius will allow firefighters to maneuver quickly and safely through the neighborhoods they serve.
This is the fifth fire apparatus that the city of Huntington has purchased during the past seven years. They include a 2016 Rosenbauer Pumper (Engine 5), a 2019 Spartan Pumper (Engine 2), a 2020 Spartan Pumper (Engine 1) and a 2023 Spartan Rescue Truck (Rescue 1).
