The Houston Fire Department has recently taken delivery of six Ferrara Fire Apparatus custom Igniter pumpers for a total of 31 Ferrara apparatus in service in Texas’ largest city.

Houston’s fleet of Ferrara front-line service apparatus includes 20 custom pumpers, two high pressure pumpers, nine 107-foot rear-mount aerials and one hazmat unit, all built on Ferrara’s Igniter custom cab and chassis.

Houston’s newest Igniter pumpers feature medium 4-door cabs with raised roofs, seating for four and custom map book/SCBA storage consoles. They are powered by Cummins ISL 400-hp engines with Allison 3000EVS transmissions. The bodies are Ferrara’s heavy duty extruded aluminum in a rescue pumper configuration with full height compartments on both sides and include custom storage for fire extinguishers, SCBA bottles and an assortment of tool boards.

The pumpers also have Hale Qmax 1,500-gpm pumps, 500-gallon tanks and Harrison 6,000-watt pto/hydraulic generators.

Company founder and CEO Chris Ferrara gave his thanks to the City of Houston for another multi-unit order.

“We’ve worked hard to gain their trust as we’ve built our relationship with the Houston Fire Department,” Ferrara said. “We value that relationship as we do with all of our customers, both large and small, and will continue to engineer each truck to their custom requirements.”

The units were sold by Hall Motors, Tyler, Texas, for $416,671 each.
