Harlingen (TX) Welcomes New Pierce Pumper with Push-In Ceremony

HARLINGEN, Texas The City of Harlingen Fire Department has added a brand new 2022 Pierce Pumper to its fleet. A short ceremony was held Thursday to unveil the new truck and ceremoniously push it into the bay.

This pumper truck holds 750 gallons of water and includes a unique warning device that is the first of its kind in the Rio Grande Valley. The round, three-light siren affixed to the front center of the truck is an extra-loud and extra-bright warning, so that vehicles can see it from longer distances and move out of the way.

Harlingen Fire Chief Rafael Balderas says that they’ve had problems with vehicles not moving over as required by law either because they didn’t hear the siren or didn’t see the truck coming. This added feature will not only be louder, but it will create a strobe light effect with LED lights that will be hard to miss.

The truck was designed by a team of Harlingen Fire Fighters that volunteered for the duty. This is the first of three fire trucks that have been recently budgeted by the Harlingen City Commission.
