BREDA, Iowa – Toyne, an Iowa-based manufacturer, recently delivered its fifth tailored apparatus to the Brookings Fire Department.
The Brookings Fire Department (BFD) is located in Brookings, South Dakota, the county seat. BFD is led by three career firefighters and 45 dedicated volunteers to protect 186 square miles in Brookings County, as well as 27 square miles in Moody County.
Brookings’ fire department recently tasked Toyne with building another apparatus to help bolster the department’s emergency response capabilities. Their latest Toyne, a pumper, features a bolted-painted stainless steel body and a Spartan Metro Star MFD chassis with a 10-inch raised roof. The fire apparatus is powered by a Cummins ISL9 450 engine and an Allison 3000 EVS transmission.

Brookings Fire Department provides fire suppression and investigation, service training and education, and rescue and recovery services. The city of Brookings was incorporated in 1883 and has a population of nearly 24,000 residents. Brookings is home to South Dakota State University, the state’s largest institution for higher education.
