640 FDs Enter E-ONE Contest

E-ONE’s marketing promotion offering fire departments a chance to win a pumper has far exceeded the expectations of executives at the Florida appararestus manufacturer.

More than 640 fire departments submited their stories to E-ONE, telling why they deserve a chance to win a Tradition ES commercial pumper valued at $170,000.

Seven finalists were selected for online voting to determine the winning department, which is scheduled to be announced at the Fire Department Instructors Conference this month in Indianapolis.

The finalists are:

  • Gallatin Sunnyside VFD, Allegheny County, Pa.
  • Powellsville VFD, Powellsville, N.C.
  • Weaverville FD, Weaverville, Calif.
  • Five Points VFD, Washington County, Fla.
  • Hines VFD, Hines, Ore.
  • Butte Falls VFD, Jackson County, Ore.
  • Oneida VFD, Clay County, Ky.
“When you read over 600 stories of departments in desperate need of a fire truck, it’s a bit overwhelming,” said E-ONE Marketing Coordinator Amanda Davis. “I wish we could help them all.”

She said she was taken aback by the number of submissions. “I was just hoping we would get enough for a competitive contest,” she said.

The sales promotion was announced in mid-January to mark the launch of the company’s Tradition ES series of apparatus, which includes a full line of commercial pumpers and pumper rescue configurations designed for departments demanding high quality and performance at a competitive price.

Fire departments had slightly less than two months to submit their entries in 500 words or less. The seven finalists were selected by an internal E-ONE employee committee that based its decisions on originality, creativity, and description of need.

Anyone, however, can vote for one of the seven finalists up until April 24 at 1 p.m., two hours before the winning department is scheduled to be announced at E-ONE’s FDIC exhibit area. The company said it would accept one vote per e-mail address.

The prize, the Tradition ES pumper, is built on an International 4-door chassis and has a Hale 1,250-gpm pump, a side mount pump panel, a 1,000-gallon tank, 89 cubic feet of hosebed storage, an adjustable ladder rack and an extended enhanced body.

Companies sponsoring the contest along with E-ONE are International, Maudlin International, Hale, Class 1, Akron Brass, R.O.M., Federal Signal Safety and Security Systems, UPF and O-Fab.
