A proper fleet maintenance program helps keep firefighters safe as they respond to various incidents. In some rural areas, there could be a 15-20 minute open-road ride to a reported structure fire, where a more urban area might have calls that are minutes away with several starts and stops as the rig gets through traffic. Collisions involving fire apparatus as well as rollovers occur. If they do, your department must ensure that its rig maintenance records are up to date, and that preventive maintenance is performed at regular intervals. Driver training is also critical to ensure that the department and apparatus operator are not liable in a crash that might occur.
