The North Cowichan Council awarded a new fire apparatus contract to Safetek Emergency Vehicles Ltd. for the purchase of a stock fire apparatus in the amount of $1,387,639, northcowichan.ca reported in its Council Matters for May 15, 2024.
A stock vehicle, which reduces the cost and lead time, was identified in the 2024 budget as a replacement vehicle for the South End Fire Hall, the report said.
A fire official said the South End fire hall’s current front-line truck is at the end of its service life, but is still in working condition so it will be redeployed as a second-line engine to meet the fire underwriters’ requirements, cowichanvalleycitizen.com reported.
