PRESS RELEASE

The Monroe Township Fire Department is proud to announce the acquisition of a new state-of-the-art rescue boat to enhance its emergency response capabilities. The new addition will significantly bolster the ability to respond to water-related emergencies swiftly and effectively. The Monroe Township Fire Department has been without a rescue boat due to our previous boat being taken out of service.

The new boat is manufactured by Ocean Craft Marine out of Annapolis, Maryland, at the cost of $398,200. Equipped with the latest technology, and designed to navigate various water bodies, including rivers, lakes, and coastal areas, this boat will enable our firefighters to provide critical assistance during water rescues, mutual aid responses, fires, search and rescue missions, and other emergencies.

Key features of the new rescue boat include:

• The console is a variation of a pilothouse design with 3-sided Isinglass enclosure.

• Twin Mercury 350-horsepower V10 outboard motors that powers the 9.5M(31) foot Fire/SAR boat.

• State-of-the-art electronics.

• Thermal camera, searchlights.

• Onboard Darley 500 gpm fire pump that will assist the department in mitigating any maritime fire-related emergencies.

• Advanced navigation and communication systems for improved coordination and response times.

• Specialized rescue equipment such as life rafts, throw bags, and medical supplies to aid in safe rescues.

• Increased capacity to accommodate multiple passengers, ensuring the safety of both victims and rescue personnel during operations.

• Enclosed hardcover cab that can be removed in the summer months.

The acquisition of this new boat underscores the Fire Department’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents, visitors, and firefighters of Monroe Township. Given the growing importance of water safety and the increasing frequency of water-related emergencies, having the right tools and resources is paramount. This new boat represents a significant step forward in the department’s ability to meet the evolving needs of the Monroe Township community and deliver the highest level of emergency services.

As the fire chief, along with the other members of the Monroe township fire department, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude, and appreciation to our Township board and especially to the residents who voted in favor of the fire millage. The overwhelming support and care shown by our community for our firefighters, and our department, is deeply valued.
