The Wingate Volunteer Fire Department recently welcomed Ladder 9, the latest addition to the fleet, which it purchased from Vigilant Hose Company, the department announced on Facebook.

“The need for an aerial device for the Wingate community has been known for many years. An opportunity recently came available and we have purchased Tower 6 from the Vigilant Hose Company.

“Ladder 9 is a 1995 Pierce 100-foot platform. This truck has been well maintained and taken care of since going into service. As Tower 6, it saw a lot of fire and more than proven this is exactly what we need.

“We would like to thank the Vigilant Hose Company with making this possible. Your hospitality, your eagerness to show us how the truck operates, and the excitement for our future was ever present. Fun fact, the Vigilant Hose Company serves Emmitsburg, Maryland, home of the National Fire Academy.

“Getting Ladder 9 into service will take a couple months. We have a lot of training we must complete as a department. But until then, know we are working hard helping ensure we are providing the best service possible to our community.

“Update: As Ladder 9 was coming into the district and not even to the station yet, we were dispatched to a structure fire in our district. Of course, Ladder 9 has made its first run.”

Vigilant (MD) Hose Company Gets New Ladder Truck for $1.6M

After nearly 30 years of service to Emmitsburg and surrounding communities, TWR6 is officially onto her new home at the Wingate Volunteer Fire Department in North Carolina, Vigilant Hose Company posted on Facebook recently.

“Wingate’s leadership spent the day in Emmitsburg for one final review of the truck as they began their journey home.

“As Emmitsburg’s first ladder truck she has served the community and our neighbors honorably. Our new truck is expected to finish production towards the end of the year and we anticipate a reserve truck to be in Emmitsburg shortly to ensure continuity of services.

“The new TWR6 will be similar to its predecessor, having a 100-foot rear-mounted bucket. At a cost of $1.6 million, we are grateful to the community and our supporters who enabled us to purchase this new piece with all cash on hand.”
