First Responder Struck by Hit-And-Run Driver at Accident Scene in PA

The North Shenango Fire Department made the following Facebook post Sunday, July 28:

A first responder with the North Shenango Fire Department was struck by a hit-and-run driver at the scene of a previous motor vehicle accident on Hartstown Road, near the Spillway, Sunday, July 28.

Due to the location of the vehicles involved in the first accident, the decision was made by both fire personnel and the police to close the road at Hartstown Road and Fries Road. Cones were placed across the road to close the road and personnel returned to assist at the accident scene.

Unfortunately, some drivers disregarded the cones and proceeded to drive around them. Some even berated first responders about the road closure. Roads are not closed without a valid reason.

A car struck one of our first responders and left the scene. We are very thankful that he was evaluated at the hospital and is now at home resting. Thank you to all who reached out today to check on 17 House.

Special thanks to the dispatchers at the 911 center who did a fantastic job notifying the proper agencies. Also to the ambulance crew from the City of Meadville Fire and EMS for not only their quick response to our accident scene, but also taking great care of our first responder.

Folks, this could have ended very differently. Please do not disregard traffic closures. You never need to get somewhere that is more important than our personnel returning home safely to their families.
