On Wednesday, June 26, Edinburgh Fire and Rescue Chief Lollar and Assistant Chief Routier traveled to Fire Service Inc. in St. John, Indiana to go over details and discuss outfitting their new engine, the department said in a Facebook post.
This new apparatus will replace the current engine, which will be 30 years old in a few months. Current Engine 41, a 1995 Pierce Saber, will move to reserve status.
The new Engine 41 will carry 1,000 gallons of water and have a 1,500 gallon-per-minute (gpm) pump. Its low hosebed will make deploying hose much easier and safer. The side-mount pump panel allows for a shorter wheel base apparatus that will be safer to maneuver to emergencies.
The high side compartments on both sides of the apparatus will allow firefighters to carry more life-saving equipment and keep things better organized. Most importantly, it will be equipped with many modern safety features like air bags and seat belt warning lights to better protect firefighters while responding to emergencies.
