Driver Charged with DWI After Striking Wilkesboro (NC) Fire Apparatus at Scene of Fatality

The Wilkesboro Police Department made the following Facebook post Sunday, June 30:

“At approximately 3:10 a.m. Sunday, June 30, the Wilkesboro Police Department received a call of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of US Hwy 421 and Addison Avenue. As a result of the collision, the pedestrian that was struck was fatally injured. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of everyone involved. As with all major vehicle collisions in Wilkesboro, our Crash Reconstruction Team was called in to investigate the crash. This team consists of members from the Wilkesboro Police Department and the North Wilkesboro Police Department who have specialized training in motor vehicle crashes. Alcohol was not a factor in this incident. This investigation is continuing.

“During this investigation, traffic was detoured at Winkler Mill Road to allow officers to conduct the initial crash investigation. During this time, a motorist approached the detour area, failed to stop, and struck an unoccupied Wilkesboro fire truck causing extensive damage to the motorist vehicle and the fire truck. No injuries were reported from this crash. This investigation lead to officers suspecting the driver of this vehicle to be impaired and the driver was arrested and charged with Driving While Impaired. This investigation is also continuing.”
