KME Fire Apparatus has introduced two airport rescue and firefighting (ARFF) vehicles, firsts for the company based in Nesquehoning, Pa.
The ARFFs, called the KP1500 and the KP3000, both have glass reinforced polyester (GRP) Plastisol bodies built on KME chassis.
The KP1500 is a 4×4 vehicle with a 1,500-gallon tank and the KP3000 is a 6×6 vehicle with a 3,000-gallon tank. The state-of-the-art apparatus include high strength and self-contained bodies, which are 100 percent corrosion free and provide superior strength and durability, according to the manufacturer.
The KME chassis are designed for severe off-pavement service. Features include 700-hp engines, 2,000-gpm pumps, coil spring over rigid axle suspension, low centers of gravity and high under-axle clearance. KME said the two KP ARFFs are the most maneuverable ARFF apparatus in the industry.
The KP1500 Class 4 apparatus and the KP3000 Class 5 apparatus are new products among KME’s extensive airport product group offerings, which include airport rapid intervention vehicles in Class 1, 2 and 3 configurations. The KME ARFF chassis is comprised of readily available commercial components, which allows for ease of service and
simple access to parts, according to the company.
KME said its ARFF vehicles will be subjected to rigorous testing to meet all current requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
The company said it committed substantial resources and personnel to the development and introduction of the new ARFFs, They will be exhibited at several shows and conferences throughout the year, including the ARFF Chiefs and Leadership Conference in Orlando, the 31st Annual Airport Conference, Hershey, Pa., and the ARFF Working Group Annual Conference in Las Vegas.
Initial ARFF orders are currently in production, and KME has accepted additional orders to be built this year.
