The Rapid City Fire Department made the following announcement on Facebook Thursday, April 13:
The Rapid City Fire Department held a ceremony and blessing to place their new ambulance into service.
This ambulance will replace the current aging Medic 7. Medic 7 proudly serves the community of North Rapid, North Haines, Box Elder, and New Underwood areas. It is also the intercept unit for the community of Wall.
The push-in ceremony symbolizes a tradition in the fire service that dates back to the 1800s to when firefighters had to push their horse-drawn wagons back into the station after a fire.
