Panasonic Showcases TOUGHBOOK TIC Capabilities at FDIC International 2024

Panasonic Toughbook FLIR

At last week’s FDIC International 2024, Panasonic demonstrated some of the thermal imaging capabilities available for its TOUGHBOOK line.

Available as a modular plugin, the built-in thermal imaging camera (TIC) helps users detect, record, analyze, rectify, and document surface temperatures while out in the field. Panasonic has integrated the FLIR® device as an option for the TOUGHBOOK G2 to enable members to accurately capture temperatures while using the same two-in-one computer to run the applications they need to do their day-to-day work on.

Marcus Claycomb and Jerry Napolitano of Panasonic spoke to Fire Apparatus & Emergency Equipment staff in booth #1031 at the Indianapolis Convention Center, touting some of the benefits of the TIC as well as the additional security features of its Windows-based OS.

Some of the TOUGHBOOK TIC benefits include the ability to capture and transmit information not visible to the naked eye in a variety of situations—in darkness, smoke, or underground—and rapidly analyze and act on that information.

Some of the thermal features:

  • Temperature range: -14°F to 842°F (-10°C to 450°C)
  • Modes: Still image, Shoot, Record and Review
  • Detailed real-time temperature per-pixel display
  • Distance: 32.8′ (1Om) with a 2.4″ (61mm) height
  • QR Code readers, Report creation
  • Color palette adjustments

The modular aspects of the plugin system and its backwards compatbility allow for cost savings, providing one device in place of many.
