The Summerdale Fire & Rescue was awarded a $7,308 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation recently.

“We are incredibly grateful to Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation and our local Firehouse Subs restaurant in Foley for awarding us a $7,308 grant to ensure our first responders have the necessary equipment to save lives,” the department said in a Facebook post. “Having the proper tools is crucial to the safety of our first responders and community.”

With these funds, the department can purchase a Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) Kit, to be used to safely and efficiently search for downed or incapacitated firefighters. Once located, the department can provide the firefighters with emergency breathing air and rescue them from the hazardous situation.
