Jeffrey Wagner died Friday after slamming into the back of a parked Summit (PA) Hose Company apparatus on Route 28, reports wpxi.com.

Just prior to the accident, first responders were concerned something like this would happen, the report says.

Wagner’s vehicle was smashed into the back of the apparatus, the impact of which killed him instantly. First responders were tending to the scene of a separate accident, according to the report.

Wagner, 60, was speeding, swerved to avoid another vehicle, hit the guard rail, and then collided with the apparatus. The accident closed the highway for hours from Exits 13 to 17.

Police officials are investigating.
