Willis Knighton Health recently awarded a $54,000 grant to the Shreveport Fire Department to help equip six new emergency response vehicles, ktalnews.com reported.

The funds will be used to purchase essential equipment for the Bomb Squad and fire investigations unit, ensuring these teams are fully prepared for emergency responses, the report said. The department purchased six new Dodge Ram pickup trucks but, at the time, could not afford the equipment necessary for operating them, the report said.

The grant money will be used to buy equipment to safely transport gear and tools for render-safe procedures of hazardous devices found in the department’s response area, according to the report. The trucks will also be outfitted so the department can properly store and transport personal protective equipment.
