A request was made to the Detroit Metro Airport Fire Department for an Aircraft Rescue Fire Truck for use in an oil fire, reports Oakland County Times.
The specialty truck carries several thousand gallons of water and firefighting foam and it also carries 500 pounds of Purple-K, a dry chemical effective for oil fires.
Chief Jon Unruh said that shared resources from mutual aid partners have been used in incidents including hazardous materials spills, trench rescues, and structural collapse scenes.
