The Last Chance Rescue Filter is an escape device that provides respiratory protection to firefighters in the event of an SCBA out-of-air emergency or malfunction.

The manufacturer, Essex PB&R Corp., said the multi-layer filter offers protection against particulates, carbon monoxide and other toxic gases commonly found in structural fires. It quickly adapts to most SCBA masks in place of the secondary regulator, the company said.

Convenient packaging and its small size allow a firefighter to carry it on a belt, in a pocket or clipped to the SCBA strap, according to the company, which said training units and videos are available.
