The 2023 wildfire season was one the worst in Canadian History and the 2024 season is shaping up to be just as active, GlobalMedic said in a Facebook post recently. Additional resources are needed to contain these fires. Canadians are coming together to meet this adversity head on by coordinating the timely delivery of additional firefighting equipment to bolster available resources for fire departments across the country.
GlobalMedic is fundraising to purchase fire skids with a 1,000-liter (264-gallon) tank, pump, and hose to mount on the back of a pick-up truck, converting it into a small fire truck. Canadian companies are building the skids, and companies like United Rentals are using their existing transport capacity and stores to help receive and distribute skid units across the fire zones.
United Rentals is transporting fire skids from Edmonton and moving them to their Grande Prairie store to facilitate pick ups by fire departments in the region. They have also received batches of fire skids at their Prince George and Williams Lake stores for fire department pick ups and we are expanding to the lower mainland and Vancouver Island as well. Thank you United Rentals for your partnership in our Canadian Wildfire Response.
The units can be deployed to more remote areas that might be inaccessible to full-sized fire trucks, cbc.com reported.
