WATCH | South Metro Fire Rescue (CO) Planned for Safety at PGA Tour’s BMW Championship

South Metro Fire Rescue (SMFR) had a comprehensive response plan to ensure the safety and well-being of over 30,000 visitors attending the final rounds of the prestigious BMW Championship at Castle Pines Country Club. The golf tournament concluded Sunday afternoon, Aug. 26.

“Ensuring the safety of all attendees while maintaining the resources necessary to serve the district is our top priority,” said EMS Battalion Chief JP Piche of SMFR. “With our team of highly trained professionals and strategically positioned emergency medical resources, we are fully equipped to handle any emergencies that may arise during the tournament.”

As part of the plan, SMFR deployed seven EMS Medic carts throughout the 18-hole course, each staffed by a paramedic and Firefighter/EMT. These carts were equipped with essential lifesaving equipment to provide immediate medical assistance to anyone in need.

In addition to the on-course medical response units, SMFR had an additional brush truck with four personnel and a dedicated medic unit with two personnel staged at SMFR Station 39 on Happy Canyon, ready to respond to any emergencies occurring outside of the golf course.

“Our teams are strategically positioned to ensure rapid response times and effective coordination in case of any incidents,” stated EMS Battalion Chief Piche.

Furthermore, SMFR Emergency Communications had two dispatchers stationed at the Unified Command center, solely dedicated to overseeing the 25-plus SMFR personnel working to guarantee a seamless and efficient emergency response.

SMFR reminded all attendees to stay hydrated, pace themselves while traversing the course, and be mindful of their surroundings to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
