New Boston (NH) Receives $9M Grant from Department of Defense for New Fire Station

New Boston, New Hampshire is developing a new fire station with the help of a $9 million grant from the Department of Defense, wmur.com reported.

NH Sen. Maggie Hassan visited the town Tuesday, Aug. 6 to discuss the grant, which will aid in constructing the new facility.

The Department of Defense is funding the project to provide more comprehensive coverage for the Space Force Station in New Boston.

The current station was built in 1973 when there were about 1,600 residents in rural New Boston. The nine volunteer firefighters at that time responded to about 15 calls a year. Today, the town has grown to more than 6,000 residents. There are 50 volunteer/call EMTs and firefighters (43 members and 7 recruits). The current station does not have showers or a decontamination area.

The new fire station is expected to serve the community by responding to fires, emergencies, and hazmat situations.
