Atlanta (GA) Auditor Finds ‘Significant’ Issues with City’s Fire Apparatus, Maintenance

The Atlanta City Auditor’s office released a report Friday, Aug. 2, detailing the problems surrounding Atlanta’s fire truck fleet, atlantanewsfirst.com reported.

That report concludes that the officer-in-charge has not been consistently reviewing or approving daily apparatus inspections for repairs, the report said.

The report also found that one-third of the city’s fire vehicles are beyond their life cycle, usually between 15 and 18 years. Photos attached to the report show torn seats, tattered seatbelts, and fluid leaks, the report said. The report explains that the city did not have a plan to replace these vehicles and that between 20% and 40% are out of service at any given time, according to the report.
