The Grand Prairie Fire Department’s new blockers, Scorpion 3 and 9, are now in service to protect citizens and first responders, the department said in a Facebook post Wednesday, July 31.

The truck-mounted attenuators are designed to provide a barrier to protect first responders and the civilians they assist on the scene of highways and major roadways. With its scorpion-like tail end, the device is intended to absorb a vehicular crash’s impact, decrease damage to the vehicle, and save the motorist’s life.
