A 35-year-old man was arrested in connection with stealing a ride on the back of a Eugene Springfield Fire Department apparatus tailgate, the Eugene Police Department said in a Facebook post Monday, July 29.

At 7:39 a.m., police were called to assist Eugene Springfield Fire at the Danebo Station, 500 Berntzen Road. A man, later identified as Fernando Aguilera-Bravo, age 35, was reported to have ridden on the back of one of the rigs returning to the station.

Once at the station, personnel discovered Aguilera-Bravo, who jumped off the tailboard, and then rolled under the apparatus, partially hidden by a large tree limb lying beside him, the post said. Multiple police units arrived to help the fire department with Aguilera-Bravo. There was a language barrier, but everyone calmly managed the situation. Once police detained and identified Aguilera-Bravo, they found he had two warrants out of Marion County, according to the post.

Police transported Aguilera-Bravo to Lane County Jail on the warrants and criminal trespass in the second degree.
