The Williston Fire Department recently took delivery of a new 2024 Pierce Wildland Urban Interface engine. The unit is built on an International Navistar chassis. This truck replaces Tender 10, a 2007 general-use tender-tanker that was converted for fire service use.
The purchase was made possible thanks to grant funds from the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality’s Clean Diesel Grant. WFD was awarded this grant in 2020 and immediately began the replacement process.
A Wildland Urban Interface truck is designed to have features of both a structural firefighting engine and a wildfire engine. This truck meets all the requirements of a wildland Type 3 engine and the minimum requirements of a structural firefighting engine. This combination of units allows for ease of use while responding to larger wildfires while also maintaining minimum pump and equipment needs for structural response.
