Jun. 26—According to the city, “Construction work is underway on Scottsdale Fire Station 612 — a 12,000-square-foot fire station northwest of the Airpark near the 101 and Hayden Road.”

In 2022, Axon purchased 75 acres of undeveloped state land at an auction.

As part of a development agreement with the city, Axon agreed to “donate” a portion of the land for the city to build a fire station, a well and aquifer.

The station is at the northeast corner of Hayden Road and Mayo Boulevard — which was renamed “Axon Way.”

According to the city, Fire Station 612 will cost $10.5 million; it was part of the sprawling 2019 bond projects approved by voters.

“This station will improve response times in the area after it opens in the summer of 2025,” according to the city.

The fire department says North Scottsdale desperately needs the new fire station, which will house a four-person engine company, two-person battalion chief unit and a wildland interface fire attack vehicle.

Due to “explosive growth for residential and commercial growth in the area,” North Scottsdale fire stations 609 and 611 have a response time that exceeds the goal of 4 minutes, according to the fire department.

“By moving the station closer to the geographic center of the area it serves and improving access, the response times for emergency services will improve significantly.”

The new station will have a physical fitness area, office space, laundry facilities, a dozen sleeping quarters and full kitchen.

Next to the fire station, the city already built a new well.

According to the city, “This is one of four locations where the wells are being built as part of the city’s commitment to maximizing renewable surface water supplies and minimizing the use of groundwater.”

The wells are designed to “ensure long-term water supply sustainability by recharging high quality, potable water directly into the aquifer when water demand is low (late fall and winter months) and retain the capability to withdraw groundwater during high demand or emergencies.”
