Detroit Fire Department apparatus operators have been involved in seven incidents in the past eight days and 51 in 2024, clickondetroit.com reported.
Detroit apparatus have run into a truck and a store sign, have hit parked cars, an ambulanced flipped onto its side, and rigs have caused damage to firehouse doors, the report said.
Most accidents are minor according to DFD as they say there’s 1% of accidents compared to 160,000 emergency fire runs a year, according to the report.
A fire official says re-training firefighters and the review of department driving policy is underway, the report said. The fire official also reminded drivers to move to the right whenever there’s an emergency vehicle responding to a call.
