Rapid City (SD) FD Recovers Stolen Gear from Dumpster

Last week, the Rapid City Fire Department took to social media to ask for the public’s help locating stolen firefighting equipment, kotatv.com reported.

The gear was stolen from a vehicle last week and contained a personalized radio strap and helmet camera. The equipment was found late Monday in a dumpster in South Rapid City after a community member said she saw the social media post and called the tip in, the report said.

Fire department officials say the equipment would cost around $5,000 to replace and despite having spare gear, the whole ordeal was an inconvenience for those whose job is to protect and prevent disaster, according to the report.

“A big thank you to the lady who called and told the department my location this morning,” the Rapid City Fire Department said in a Facebook post Tuesday. “Crews were able to recover the missing gear in a dumpster on the south side of town. We can not thank the public enough for keeping an eye out for our missing gear and helping us bring it back home.”
