Pittsburgh (PA) Fire Shows Off Three New Pumpers

The Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire showed off three out of its four newest pumpers in the Strip District recently, cbsnews.com reported.

These three new rigs will be heading to stations in the Hill District, Wilkinsburg and East Liberty and the engines they will be replacing will then be shifted down to slower stations and the older engines at the slower stations will either be taken out of service or moved to be spare rigs, the report said.

A fire official says that these three new pumpers took the Spencer Manufacturing Company in Michigan more than two years to build. Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire wants all its new engines from the same manufacturer so that it has only one manufacturer to deal with and only one set of parts.

The fire official said he hopes to get 20 years out of these pumpers.
