Rural Metro Fire – Knox County posted the following on its Facebook page:
This afternoon at approximately 1 p.m., Rural Metro Fire responded to a reported house fire in the Gibbs community. Engine 234, responding from Gibbs, on very compromised roads, slid off the road when confronted with a car too close to the double yellow center line. The fire truck operator was forced to the edge of the road, which gave way under the weight of the truck, and the truck ended up on its side in the snow, narrowly missing a power pole. While the truck did have chains deployed, it was very difficult to determine where the edge of the road was located with the amount of snow accumulated on the edge. Traffic was impacted until 3:30 p.m.
There were no injuries reported.
Other crews arrived on the scene to determine that the owner was having an HVAC issue and not a fire.
Always remember to yield for all emergency vehicles. The law states to pull to the right and stop. These first responders are out there risking their lives in horrible weather conditions. Please give them some room.
